Riverside Y.C. Does it Yet Again ……
======================================================
The Annual Luau at Riverside Y.C. was held Saturday July 16th, and as usual RYC
had the inside track with Mother Nature.
Over the years it has always been a very hot and muggy event – but always a huge success.
However, this year – it was a nice breezy sunny day and a very cool
evening. The air was cool and the attire
was even cooler … bright festive colors, straw hats and flower necklaces.
The white sandy beach dance floor was packed with party
people as the DJ played everyone’s favorite tunes. At the outside tiki-bar the blenders were whirling
away making frozen decadent drinks while at the inside bar the libations were
flowing smoothly.
The 300 or so that were in attendance enjoyed the live show
that has become a staple of this event – Johnny Cash started
the show and had everyone tappin’ their feet and singing along. Then out came Elvis – yes – Elvis was in the building!
His swooning and gyrating hips had the ladies going and many posed for
pictures during the show. The white sand
dance floor was busy and Elvis was a BIG HIT – the finale was Johnny Cash and June Carter – which I missed as I was dragged into the inside bar – yes dragged I say – dragged inside to do
a few one ounce sippers. It was an
excellent show – but would you expect anything less from the RYC Crew ??
They added BBQ chicken and Baby Back Ribs by Nelson B-B-Q to
the already great menu of Esposito’s Italian Roasted Pork which made for and
even better assortment of food. Between
the fresh fruit salads, the cold salads and the deserts, this made for a great
full course meal.
Many of the boaters arrived on Friday night to a nice dinner
buffet with live music and get into a Hold’em Poker Tournament. The live entertainment wad GREAT – this guy was a human Juke Box as he played almost every hit song
from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s as well as songs that many remembered for years past. Many got up to show their talents and I was
in awe as I listened to many get up and belt out some great tunes – what a start to a great week-end !
Then Sunday morning rolls around where everyone wanders up
for breakfast which consisted of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, home fries and
other tasty treats that the RYC crew put together – got to say – blood shot eyes was the attire for the morning.
So, if you factor in the great Friday evening show and dinner
buffet, the terrific Luau with live show, great food & drink and the Sunday
breakfast buffet …. there is really not too many
places you can get all this fun and food for a week-end at a cost of $35 (and the docking and electric are included to boot).
Lastly… I want to take a second and send out a shout out to a good friend
and give him an ‘atta boy’ as well as a well earned thank you. Over the years many of us have visited RYC
and have had to make docking reservations thru their Harbor Master. Whether it was for an RYC Opening Day where
he had to make room and dock 25 visiting boats, or for a Von Nieda Picnic where
he had to make room and dock 50 plus visiting boats or if you were just pulling
in for a quick lunch …. P/C and Harbor Master Eddie Kalesnik always made these
tasks look easy and made you feel like a long time family member. Riverside YC has been very fortunate to have
him as a member and more fortunate to have had him in charge of their docks. This year’s Luau was Eddie’s last event as
Harbor Master as he is stepping down. I
want to send out my warmest thoughts, well wishes and many thank yous, to a
good friend and all around great person.
Enjoy the pictures from the Luau…
